Recent NSSC press release in the Swampscott Reporter:

Craig Lewin of Swampscott and a member of the North Shore Swim Club won
the "swim across the sound 25K open water swim" on Saturday August 13,
2005. Craig is a 19 year old distance swimmer who will be entering his
sophomore year at Boston College.

"There were 163 swimmers, 13 solo swimmers and 25 relay teams. The water
temp for most of the race was 74-77 degrees and there was a good amount of
jelly fish that loved to sting.  I got stung by them a lot more than I
expected, especially when I had to swim through a massive school of them.
The race started from Port Jefferson in Long Island, NY and it ended at
Captain's Cove in Bridgeport Connecticut.  The race was a charity to raise
money for cancer research and education.  We ended up raising over
$250,000.  It was a 25k swim which is about 16 miles.  I ended up going
6hrs. 44minutes. 33seconds.  I broke the amateur course record by about
1hr. 33 minutes.  Before my swim the record was 8hrs 17minutes and that
record was set in 1996 by Dave Parcells who was this year's Swim Across
the Sound race director.  It was a ton of fun and it was amazing to see so
many people attempt this race all in the name of helping prevent cancer"
said Craig.

This marked the culmination of an incredible summer season for Craig.
Before winning this race, Craig won the 19-29 age group at the mile open
water swim in Salem last weekend. Three weeks ago, Craig qualified for the
prestigious Speedo Sectional Championships in the 200 meter butterfly. He
had a great season of training and really improved his mental approach to
swimming. It was a great pleasure to help him, said Coach Tony Padvaiskas
of North Shore Swim Club.
