Hello Everyone,

Here are some NSSC updates as of Wednesday 8/29/07:

1) Fall registrations are past due. We will be sending in the Roster for Hanscom base access on Tuesday, September 4, 2007. If you have not registered, please do so, or you will not be able to gain based access until October.

NSSC WILL BE ATTENDING A SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY CLINIC on Sunday 9/23/07. All 11 and over swimmers are encouraged to attend session 1!
2) Dr. Alan Goldberg, a nationally-recognized expert in the field of applied sports psychology, will be appearing in Concord on Sunday, September 23, 2007 for two presentations.  The talks, aimed at coaches, athletes as well as parents, will focus on mental toughness strategies for helping individuals and teams achieve their maximum potential.

The first talk, “Racing Your Fastest When it Counts the Most – Mental Toughness for Peak Performance,” is geared to swimmers, triathletes and participants in other endurance sports, and will begin at 1:00 (doors open at 12:30).  The second, “Developing Mental Toughness,” would be appropriate for athletes in any sport, particularly team sports, and begins at 3:00 (doors open at 2:30).   Each talk will last an hour and will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The event will take place at the Concord-Carlisle High School auditorium at 495 Walden Street, Concord.  Admission for the event is $10 per person per session.  No advance purchase is available, but teams may request to reserve a block of seats.  As a nationally-known sports psychologist, Dr. Goldberg specializes in helping athletes overcome fears & blocks, snap out of slumps, and perform to their potential.  He is recognized for his ability to take the subjects of sports psychology and peak performance and present them in a humorous, practical and easy-to-understand manner.  Dr. Goldberg works with athletes and teams across all sports at every level, from professional and Olympic caliber right down to junior competitors.  He is a regular and popular presenter at coaches’ clinics, colleges, and high schools across the country, and a frequent speaker at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. He was the sport psychology consultant to University of Connecticut Huskies, and worked with both the 1999 NCAA Men’s Basketball and the 2000 NCAA Men’s Soccer championship teams.

3) Preseason activities. Some athletes are chomping at the bit to begin workouts! We highly suggest that aerobic based conditioning ( kicking, running, biking, swimming, playing basketball, etc..) to get you ready for the upcoming season. If anyone needs specific workouts, they are asked to contact Coach Tony.

4) We wish everyone a safe, fun and educational start to the school year. We look forward to seeing you on the 10th!

Sincerely,

Tony Padvaiskas
